The problem you are facing

Who can act for you inside Andorra

If you are facing removal from the Principality, the practical question is not only what the law says but who can act for you inside Andorra’s own system. The practice of law here is reserved to advocates admitted to the Col·legi Oficial d’Advocats d’Andorra, and there is no separate procurador: the same lletrat both represents and defends you before the courts. Proceedings, filings and judgments are in Catalan, and procedural periods are counted in business days only, so August and the Christmas period do not run against you. Our service is free and carries no obligation. Tell us about your situation in a short form and we match you with a deportation lawyer in Andorra whose practice covers the jurisdiction and the stage you have reached.

Andorra in practice

How removal and deportation matters work in Andorra

Andorra is a parliamentary co-principality whose 1993 Constitution created a fully separated judicial power, exercised in the name of the Andorran people by independent and irremovable batlles and magistrates. For anyone facing removal, that structure — and the language and deadlines it works in — shapes every step of the case.

Who may practise law here

The practice of law in Andorra is reserved to advocates admitted to the Col·legi Oficial d’Advocats d’Andorra, under Law 48/2014 of 18 December as amended by Law 10/2023 of 30 January. Admission as a practising member requires the required law degree, the Andorran aptitude certificate (certificat d’aptitud) after passing the exams, and a practical traineeship. Andorra has no separate procurador: the same lletrat represents and defends you.

Which court hears your case

The Llei qualificada de la Justícia of 3 September 1993 allocates judicial power to the Batlles, the Tribunal de Batlles, the Tribunal de Corts and the Tribunal Superior de Justícia, and structures it into civil, criminal and administrative jurisdictions. The Batllia d’Andorra hears first instance and investigation; the Tribunal de Corts deals with serious criminal offences; the Tribunal Superior de Justícia is the highest instance and hears appeals.

Catalan is the language of the courts

Catalan is the sole official language of the State and of judicial activity. Proceedings, filings and judgments are in Catalan, which is a practical point for foreign clients and for the drafting of documents to be used before the Andorran courts. Everything filed in your matter will be read in Catalan, so the wording of your submissions matters from the very first step.

Free legal aid and the duty advocate

Free legal aid (benefic de justícia gratuïta) is granted by the judge by reasoned order to persons who prove insufficient economic resources, weighing income, basic expenses, dependent family members and their overall patrimonial situation. It covers assistance to a detained person by the duty advocate (lletrat d’ofici), defence and representation at every stage of the same criminal proceeding, other authorised procedural expenses, and free judicial copies and notarial acts.

What proceedings cost

Judicial fees (taxes judicials) exist under the Llei de taxes judicials of 22 June 2000. Article 2.1 taxes proceedings in the civil and administrative jurisdictions, and claims for civil liability brought within criminal proceedings, while criminal proceedings as such are not subject to the fee. The taxpayer is the claimant or applicant, and the fee counts as procedural costs. Advocates’ fees are freely agreed between client and lawyer.

Deadlines run in business days

Procedural periods are computed in business days (dies hàbils) only: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, August and the Christmas period are not counted. Judicial resolutions must be notified within a maximum of five business days from the date they are issued, and notification is normally what starts the clock. Missing a period can close a route permanently, so deadlines are usually the first thing a lawyer checks.

Common situations

Why removal cases are hard to handle alone

Three situations we see most often when someone contacts us about an expulsion or removal matter in Andorra.

01

You have received a removal or expulsion notice

The document is formal, the reasoning is technical, and the period to respond starts running from notification. Without local representation you may never see the arguments that decide the file.

02

Everything is in Catalan, on business-day deadlines

Filings, resolutions and judgments are in Catalan, and periods are counted in business days that exclude August and the Christmas period. A missed period can shut off a route for good.

03

You do not know which court or procedure applies

Andorran justice is structured into civil, criminal and administrative jurisdictions, each with its own bodies and rules. Choosing the wrong route wastes the only time you have.

How we help

What our matching service gives you

We do not practise law and we do not give legal advice. We identify the right Andorran advocate for your situation and connect you.

Bar-admitted advocates only

Every professional we match you with is admitted to the Col·legi Oficial d’Advocats d’Andorra, which is the mandatory route to practise law in the Principality.

Free of charge, no obligation

Using the service costs you nothing and commits you to nothing. You decide whether to instruct the lawyer once you have spoken.

Local procedural knowledge

Your lawyer works with Andorran procedure day to day: business-day computation, notification rules and the jurisdiction that hears your matter.

Clear next steps

After the first conversation you should know which documents matter, what the realistic stages are and what falls to you rather than to the lawyer.

Cross-border reach

Questions

Deportation and removal in Andorra: frequent questions

Do I need a lawyer admitted in Andorra to contest a removal decision?

The practice of law in Andorra is reserved to advocates admitted to the Col·legi Oficial d’Advocats d’Andorra under Law 48/2014, as amended by Law 10/2023. There is no separate procurador profession, so the same lletrat represents and defends you in judicial proceedings. A lawyer qualified only abroad cannot act before the Andorran courts.

Can I get free legal aid in Andorra if I cannot afford a lawyer?

Free legal aid (benefic de justícia gratuïta) is granted by the judge by reasoned order to persons who prove insufficient economic resources, taking into account income, basic expenses, dependent family members and overall patrimonial situation. It covers assistance to a detained person by the duty advocate, defence and representation at every stage of the same criminal proceeding, other authorised procedural expenses, and free judicial copies and notarial acts.

In which language will my case be conducted?

Catalan is the sole official language of the Andorran State and of judicial activity. Proceedings, filings and judgments are in Catalan, so documents prepared for use before the Andorran courts must be drafted in that language. This is a practical point for foreign clients and for anyone assembling evidence from outside the Principality.

How are procedural deadlines counted in Andorra?

Periods are counted in business days (dies hàbils) only: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, August and the Christmas period are not counted. Judicial resolutions must be notified within a maximum of five business days from the date they are issued, which is normally when periods begin. A civil appeal against a final judgment, for example, runs for 20 business days.

How much does a deportation lawyer in Andorra cost?

Advocates’ fees in Andorra are freely agreed between the client and the lawyer. Judicial fees (taxes judicials) exist under the Llei de taxes judicials of 22 June 2000 and tax proceedings in the civil and administrative jurisdictions, while criminal proceedings as such are not subject to the fee. Where resources are insufficient, legal aid may be granted. Our matching service is free.

Which Andorran court will deal with my case?

The Llei qualificada de la Justícia of 3 September 1993 allocates judicial power to the Batlles, the Tribunal de Batlles, the Tribunal de Corts and the Tribunal Superior de Justícia, in civil, criminal and administrative jurisdictions. The Batllia d’Andorra hears first instance and investigation, the Tribunal de Corts deals with serious criminal offences, and the Tribunal Superior de Justícia is the highest instance and hears appeals.
