How we help
Corporate tax work in Croatia, matched to the right practitioner
Corporate tax in Croatia sits inside a codified, continental civil-law framework similar to the German and Austrian tradition, so how a provision is drafted and how the file is built matter as much as any decided case. Whether you are incorporating, restructuring a group, responding to a tax audit or challenging an assessment, the practitioner you instruct shapes both strategy and cost. We are a free matching service: you describe your situation once, and we introduce you to a corporate tax lawyer in Croatia whose practice covers your type of matter. You keep control of the mandate, the fees and every decision. We simply take the guesswork out of finding the right specialist.
Croatia in practice
What a Croatian corporate tax mandate actually involves
Croatia has been a member of the European Union since 1 July 2013 and applies a codified legal system in which judicial precedent is not a formal source of law. For companies, that means the statute, the procedural rules and the quality of the file carry decisive weight.
A codified, civil-law framework
Croatia follows the continental tradition: legislation is codified and precedent is not a binding source of law. The Companies Act and the Civil Obligations Act sit alongside tax and administrative rules, so corporate tax work is largely about reading the statute closely and assembling the file correctly from the outset.
Who is allowed to act for you
Only members of the Croatian Bar Association (Hrvatska odvjetnička komora) may practise as a lawyer (odvjetnik). Membership is compulsory under the Attorneys Act, and entrants must hold a law degree, complete the prescribed trainee period and pass the bar examination. Specialisation is what separates one practice from another.
Where corporate tax disputes are heard
Disputes against the tax administration are administrative matters. Croatia has four administrative courts and a High Administrative Court that decides appeals, with the Supreme Court as the court of last instance. Separately, nine commercial courts and the High Commercial Court handle litigation between businesses, which often runs alongside a tax assessment.
Deadlines that decide cases
Croatian procedure is unforgiving on time. An action against an administrative act must be brought within 30 days, and an appeal in an administrative dispute within 15 days. General civil claims prescribe after five years and periodic payments after three. Missing a window can end a strong argument before it is ever heard.
What representation costs
Lawyers’ fees follow the Tariff on Remuneration and Reimbursement of Costs for Lawyers’ Work (NN 138/2023), calculated in tariff points and increased by VAT and expenses, and are borne by the client; the losing party may be ordered to reimburse costs. Court fees can be halved where a filing is made electronically and paid at the moment of filing.
Asset-holding structures and the land register
Where your company holds Croatian real estate, ownership passes only on registration in the land register kept by the municipal court. Since 10 February 2023 applications must be filed electronically through a notary public or a lawyer as mandatory users of the shared ZIS system, so a qualified professional is indispensable in property transactions and reorganisations.

Common situations
What usually brings companies to us
Corporate tax problems rarely arrive alone. They arrive with a deadline attached and with consequences for cash flow, financing and reputation.
The assessment arrives before you have read it properly
A decision from the tax administration lands in the inbox, the clock is already running, and nobody internally is sure whether the disputed amount is a technical error or a real exposure.
Your adviser knows the tax but not the procedure
Good accounting advice is not the same as knowing how an administrative dispute is run, what the courts expect, or how to frame a filing so that it is not dismissed on formal grounds.
Cross-border payments raise questions at both ends
Group financing, royalties and service fees are examined by more than one tax authority, and the Croatian file has to stand up on its own terms as well as fit the group position.

Questions
Frequently asked questions about corporate tax in Croatia
How do I find a corporate tax lawyer in Croatia?
Send us a short description of your matter — the type of company, the issue and any deadline you have been given. We compare it with lawyers in Croatia who handle corporate tax matters and introduce you to a suitable practice. Using the service is free and creates no obligation to instruct anyone.
Do I need a Croatian lawyer, or can my in-house team handle a tax dispute?
In civil proceedings a party may in principle act in person at first instance, but representation by a lawyer is mandatory for extraordinary remedies before the Supreme Court and for certain procedural steps prescribed by law. In practice, administrative and commercial proceedings turn on form and timing, so instructing a Croatian-qualified lawyer early is usually the safer route.
Which courts deal with corporate tax disputes in Croatia?
Disputes against the tax administration are administrative matters heard by the administrative courts, with the High Administrative Court deciding appeals and the Supreme Court as the court of last instance. Commercial courts, nine of them together with the High Commercial Court, deal with disputes between businesses.
How long do I have to challenge a tax decision in Croatia?
An action against an administrative act must be brought within 30 days, and an appeal in an administrative dispute within 15 days. Those are short periods and they run from delivery, so the file has to be reviewed immediately rather than after an internal discussion.
What does a Croatian lawyer cost for corporate tax work?
Fees follow the Tariff on Remuneration and Reimbursement of Costs for Lawyers’ Work, calculated in tariff points, and are increased by VAT and out-of-pocket expenses; they are borne by the client, although a losing party may be ordered to reimburse costs. Court fees can be reduced by half where a filing is made electronically and paid at the moment of filing.
Does Croatian real estate held by the company affect the tax advice?
It often does, because ownership of immovable property passes only on registration in the land register kept by the municipal court, not on signature of a contract. Since 10 February 2023 registration applications must be filed electronically through a notary public or a lawyer, so property transactions and reorganisations need professional input.
