Why the lawyer matters
A dispute that moves through several courts
A corporate tax dispute in Ukraine rarely stays inside the tax office. It moves between commercial courts, appellate chambers and, in some cases, the cassation chamber of the Supreme Court, and each step has its own procedural rules, time limits and costs. A corporate tax lawyer in Ukraine reads your file against that framework: the company’s filings, the decisions you have received, the limitation periods that still apply and the evidence the court will expect. Because judicial practice must remain uniform across the country, the reasoning of the Supreme Court matters to how your case is framed from the very first filing. On this page we explain how the system works, what the verified rules say about representation and fees, and how our free matching service puts you in touch with a lawyer who handles corporate tax work in Ukraine.
Local framework
How corporate tax work is handled in Ukraine
Ukraine is a continental, civil-law jurisdiction: courts apply codified legislation, and the Supreme Court is the body that keeps practice uniform. For a company, that means the procedural route, the person who may sign and plead, and the calendar all follow rules set out in law rather than in a single tax code.
Who is allowed to act for your company
Practising as an attorney (advokat) in Ukraine requires membership of the Bar, a qualification exam, a six-month traineeship under a supervising attorney and entry in the Single Register of Advocates. Under Article 131-2 of the Constitution, representation before the Supreme Court in cassation is reserved to advocates, and legal entities must also be represented by advocates in the higher instances.
Where company disputes are heard
Ukraine follows the continental model and applies codified legislation rather than judicial precedent. Company disputes go to the specialised commercial (economic) courts, then to the appellate courts, with cassation before the commercial chamber of the Supreme Court. That court ensures the sustainability and uniformity of case law; the Constitutional Court stands outside the ordinary judiciary.
Costs: court fee and lawyers’ fees
A court fee is payable on filing under the Law ‘On Court Fee’. For a property claim brought by a legal entity it is 1.5% of the claim value, within a floor of 1 and a ceiling of 350 subsistence minimums. Lawyers’ fees have no statutory tariff: they are agreed freely in the contract on legal services.
Time limits to diarise from day one
The general limitation period for civil claims is three years, while an administrative claim against a decision, action or omission of a public authority must be brought within six months. Limitation periods were suspended under martial law and were restored from 4 September 2025 by Law No. 4434-IX, so dormant files need a fresh calculation.
Electronic filing and remote hearings
The Unified Judicial Information and Telecommunication System (UJITS) provides an Electronic Cabinet, electronic court filing and videoconferencing for hearings. Decisions are published in the Unified State Register of Court Decisions, which has operated since 2006. Electronic filing became widespread during martial law and is now part of ordinary case planning.
Justice continues under martial law
Martial law has been in force since 24 February 2022 and has been extended repeatedly. Justice is still administered, but only by courts established under the Constitution: extraordinary or special courts are prohibited and proceedings may not be shortened or accelerated. Where a court cannot operate, territorial jurisdiction may be transferred to a court in government-controlled territory.

The difficulty
What makes a tax file harder than it looks
Three problems clients raise most often before they ask for a lawyer.
A decision you cannot read
An assessment or a refusal arrives in formal Ukrainian legal language, with procedural routes and appeal options embedded in the text. Missing the route you are entitled to take can close the file early.
Deadlines that do not wait
A three-year limitation period for civil claims sounds generous until part of it has already run. Administrative claims against a public authority follow a distinct period that is easy to overlook.
Costs you cannot forecast
The court fee follows a statutory formula based on the claim value and the subsistence minimum, while the lawyer’s fee is open to negotiation. Without both figures, budgeting a dispute is guesswork.
How we help
From your problem to the right lawyer
A short intake, a verified professional and a clear next step — without charging you for the introduction.
Verified professional standing
The lawyers we match you with practise within the Ukrainian regulated profession, whose members must be entered in the Single Register of Advocates of Ukraine maintained by the Bar Council.
Procedure explained in plain English
You learn which court hears your matter, who may sign and plead on the company’s behalf, what the court fee formula looks like and which limitation period applies to your file.
One short intake, no repetition
You describe the decision or dispute once. That summary is passed to a lawyer who already works with corporate tax questions, so the first conversation starts at the substance.
No cost to be matched
Our matching service is free and carries no obligation. If you decide to instruct the lawyer, the fee is agreed directly with them in the contract on legal services.
Other jurisdictions
Looking beyond Ukraine?
If your company operates in several markets, a lawyer in each jurisdiction can be matched in the same way. These are the countries clients most often ask about alongside Ukraine.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
How do I find a corporate tax lawyer in Ukraine?
Describe your situation in a short intake: what the company does, which decision or assessment you have received and what you want to achieve. We then match you with a corporate tax lawyer in Ukraine who can act before the commercial or administrative courts. The matching service is free and carries no obligation.
Must my company be represented by an advocate?
In civil, commercial and administrative proceedings a party may act in person or through a representative. However, under Article 131-2 of the Constitution, representation before the Supreme Court in cassation is reserved to advocates, and legal entities must also be represented by advocates in the higher instances. Bar membership is compulsory to practise as an attorney.
Which courts decide company disputes in Ukraine?
Company disputes are heard at first instance by the specialised commercial (economic) courts, then by the appellate courts, with cassation before the commercial chamber of the Supreme Court. Matters involving a public authority may follow the administrative court route. The Supreme Court ensures the sustainability and uniformity of case law.
Can the lawyer’s fee be agreed freely?
Yes. Ukraine sets no official statutory tariffs for lawyers’ fees: the remuneration of an attorney is agreed between the attorney and the client in the contract on legal services, without a binding minimum or maximum. Court fees and, subject to limits, the attorney fees of the prevailing party may be recovered from the losing party.
Do limitation periods run during martial law?
Limitation periods were suspended while martial law was in force and were restored from 4 September 2025 by Law No. 4434-IX. If a claim in your file has been dormant, the calculation should be reviewed with a lawyer, because the three-year general period and the six-month period for administrative claims now run again.
Is state-funded legal aid available to a company?
Free primary legal aid — legal information, advice and consultations — is available to everyone under the jurisdiction of Ukraine. Free secondary legal aid, which covers representation in court, is provided to defined vulnerable categories of persons through the Coordination Centre for Legal Aid Provision, so a commercial company normally instructs private counsel.
